Tajpur: Incredibly
“ A beach for yourself”. In fact, one may get a feeling of ‘owning’ the beach. Tajpur is one of the
most secluded beaches in India. Tajpur beach is about 180 kms from Kolkata , lies in the Purba Medinipur district of South
Bengal, one of the southern districts of West Bengal. Tajpur is one of Bengal’s recently discovered tourist destination
that lies close to ever-popular Digha and Shankarpur. This beach is slowly becoming popular among the tourists, although the
beach here is usually exposed only when the tide ebbs. The casuarina trees, kissed by the gentle breeze at Tajpur are a soothing
sight.
Tajpur as a weekend trip option
from Kolkata will take you far from the maddening city crowds. Tajpur is the new place to be and little less explored, something
that still had the smell of fresh sea breeze, the feel of untrampled sand. This small beach is full of red crabs is the paradise for nature lovers
and the place where a river meets the sea. The estuary ( mohona)
is perhaps the reason for the crazy
waves here.
The speciality of Tajpur is that, despite the influx of tourists
and revelers in its close vicinity, this place still retains its virgin, remote-village characteristic, with not even the
basic urban amenities of life, including electricity. It is almost unpopulated, consisting just a small hamlet of fisherfolks,
a wide, hard motorable appraochway connecting it to the state highway and a wide variety of fauna—including the almost
extinct Gangetic Wild Dolphin (sighting of which, though depends absolutely on luck), the depleting Olive Ridley Turtle (a
seasonal species that comes ashore to lay eggs) and a variety of birds, including cranes, different species of ducks, the
common bulbul, magpies etc.
Things to do
Nothing much to do except bathing at the sea, enjoying the long lonely
beach, exploring the casuarinas jungle and relax.
